I'm a piano teacher in Italy, and I bought this book for myself.

I love jazz and always wanted to. I don't know, 'know' jazz, I guess. And this book is fortunately everything I hoped. Jazz is not easy to learn, especially on your own. I'm proceeding.nice and slow, enjoying the outcome of every page and it already shed light on things I always thought of as 'whoooh THIS must only the big ones know how to do' - but now I know them, too. Comes with the truth that I've been able to play anything by ear since I was about 4, so it might make the whole learning process easier/faster for me, but I would definitely recommend this book to those with strong piano and music theory basics, because examples, explanations, the logical structure, and the whole build of the book in my opinion are very well done and will be super beneficial for those who want to learn.2 of 2 people found this review helpful. Was this review useful?.5Daniel Drew Location: Bridgetown Difficulty Level: Intermediate. Even for someone like myself who often doesn't recommend learning jazz out of books, I make an exception for this one. I can almost guarantee that if you go through this book AS PRESCRIBED - that means playing all the tunes at the ends of the chapters in all keys.and practicing all the exercises exactly as he suggests - you'll be at a professional level on jazz piano. I say this because I'm a professional jazz pianist, and most of what I know about jazz piano comes from this book. And I haven't even gotten through half of it.75 of 112 people found this review helpful. Was this review useful?.5Jeremy Boggess Location: Whiteland, INDifficulty Level: Intermediate/advanced. September 28, 2005 I would suggest the Jazz Theory Book 1st. Between his Jazz Piano and Jazz Theory books, Mark Levine has put together almost everything you need to know about playing jazz piano.

Since I am still relatively new to jazz, I got both and found that the Jazz Theory book is a little more practical and almost twice as.long, while the Jazz Piano book focuses more on voicings in different styles. If you are new to jazz, these two books easily have 5-10 years worth information for you, but both are definitely designed for students with basic music theory knoweldge and several years of piano under their belt.81 of 125 people found this review helpful. Was this review useful?.Previous Page of2.
